  • Recently Diagnosed, Now What?

Having your child receive an initial diagnosis can be overwhelming. There are so many questions you’d like to have answered, but where do you begin? Right here! This 1:1 consultation with Kathleen can help you make sense of the uncertainty, devise a plan of action, identify next steps and introduce you to the many exceptional community resources available to you and your child

  • Introduction to Special Education

In this 1:1 consultation, we will review what it means for your child to be receiving special education services through the Intermediate Unit, your local school district or the many virtual charter school options.  We will talk about procedures, protocols and important information you will need in order to effectively navigate the process and advocate for your child.

  • What is an IEP and how to I read this?

An Individualized Education Program, IEP, is the document that will provide your child’s Special Education programming and services through their Intermediate Unit or school district. In this consultation, we will review each section of your child’s IEP and its importance and relevance to meeting your child’s academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs.  For those who do not have an IEP yet, we can review a mock IEP and familiarize you with every section so you will be prepared and confident when you attend your child’s first IEP Team Meeting.

  • Making sense of your child’s Initial Evaluation or Re-evaluation report.

Yes, it does appear as though an entire tree was used to create this report! Reading, absorbing and understanding everything in these reports is daunting for even the most experienced special education parent. You don’t have to do it alone. This 1:1 consultation will walk you through the sections of the report and explain each section to you and its importance and relevance to your child’s program development. An additional fee will apply if you would like our advocates to review the report prior to the consultation

Testimonial

“We have been very impressed with Kathleen’s advocacy skills.”

She is a great listener that hears your concerns and works with you and your child’s team to find solutions. It is clear that she has a lot of experience in this area as she is not afraid to speak up at IEP meetings to ask appropriate clarifying questions and frame issues in ways that allow for the school and family to find mutually agreeable solutions. I would definitely recommend Kathleen to those who are looking for a strong and knowledgeable advocate.
